Mark 4:35-41 – As we are sailing through life, storms will come. What do we do when we find ourselves overwhelmed by the waves? Are we responding with faithless fear, or faith-filled reverence? Faithless fear is ultimately joyless, and tends to withdraw from worship and the community. Faith-filled fear, however, is when a different kind of storm comes into our hearts when we see who Jesus is. The significance of Jesus calming the storm was not the improved circumstance, but the demonstration of his authority. Jesus might not calm every storm, but he can calm every heart as we rest in the gospel. The wind and waves still know his name.
